The Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Garston, Paula Keaveney, has called for pensioners to get a fairer deal through the abolition of the council tax and of charges for personal care.

Speaking at the Liberal Democrats annual national conference in Bournemouth (22 september), Paula explained just how unfair council tax is for people on limited incomes.

" Its clearly unfair to charge people according to their house size" she said " We need to replace council tax with a scheme based on people's ability to pay"

The conference voted to abolish council tax and replace it with a local income tax scheme. It also voted to end charging for personal care for the elderly.
