News in Brief from Lib Dem Councillors Richard Oglethorpe, Peter Millea and Paula Keaveney.
Cllr Peter Millea recently met with the area manager from Network Rail who promised that he would look at making improvements to the footpaths around Cressington Station. This should include resurfacing, cutting back overhanging vegetation and getting rid of graffiti.
A new group, the Friends of Garston Park, has been set up following an initiative by Councillor Paula Keaveney. The Friends are planning a range of activities and have already run a planting session on the park. New members are always welcome and information is available from Paula at paula.keaveney@liverpool.gov.uk or by looking at www.fogp.blogspot.com
Cllr Richard Oglethorpe recently met with representatives from South Liverpool Housing to discuss the empty buildings at 24/26 Island Road. Richard has asked SLH to keep an eye on the property and make sure loose bricks are removed and the grounds kept tidy. SLH do plan to refurbish and there should be a consultation in future about the use of these buildings.
Cllr Paula Keaveney is calling on Merseyrail to run six car trains on all rush hour services to and from Hunts Cross. She is pressing the organisation to do more to relieve overcrowding on some of the services and raised the issue at the most recent City Council meeting at Liverpool Town Hall.
