Respect Week in Speke and Garston

A huge range of events to help people in Speke and Garston into work and training forms part of Liverpool's latest Respect week of action.
More than 20 employment and education advice sessions are taking place from the 19-25 October, as part of a comprehensive initiative to improve life for people living in the area.
Organised by agencies including the JET (Jobs, Enterprise and Training) service and Job Centre Plus, they include:
Job Cafes
Careers guidance from Connexions
Business start up advice
Business networking sessions
Help dealing with debts
During the Week of Action, there will also be a crackdown on fly-tipped rubbish, litter and graffiti and work to tackle anti-social behaviour, truancy and crime.
Lib Dem Councillor Marilyn Fielding, Liverpool city council's executive member for safer, stronger communities, said: "In these tough economic times it is vital we do as much as we can to help and support people into education and employment.
"We are also cracking down on the things that people have told us they want dealt with such as fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour and crime.
"There is a real determination from all the agencies involved to work with local people to improve their lives, and we have had considerable success during previous weeks of action."
Lib Dem Councillor Berni Turner, executive member for the environment, said: "The size and scale of the Respect weeks is growing all the time.
"There will be literally hundreds of staff from dozens of organisations working together to improve life for people living in Speke and Garston."
