Spring is in the air and Liverpool City Council is encouraging residents to make their gardens bloom.
To mark the official start of Spring, the council's green team will be handing out 20 tonnes of free compost on Saturday (21 March) at Croxteth Park.
Liverpool city council's executive member for the environment, Councillor Berni Turner, said: "Spring is a popular time for people to get out into their garden and work hard on making it look fantastic for the remainder of the year.
"We want the Year of the Environment to grow on everyone so we're giving as many people as possible the chance to make their own green spaces bloom with this free compost.
"Liverpool has thousands of green fingered enthusiasts and we want each and every one of them to play their part in making the city blossom throughout 2009."
The compost is made up from garden waste collected from the city's kerbside recycling service.
The giveaway will run from 10am-2pm at Croxteth Park car park, off Oak Lane/Muirhead Avenue. Anyone who would like the free compost must bring along their own shovel and bags. Previous compost events have proved extremely popular so it is advisable to get there early.
The city council's green team will also be on hand to talk about how to make the most of Liverpool's recycling service and answer questions that anyone may have about what can be recycled.
