Voluntary groups in Woolton will benefit from a charity established to improve recreation and education in the neighbourhood.
The Woolton Educational and Recreational Charity is using the interest on the proceeds from the sale of Woolton Village Club in 2000 to make awards to local groups.
Last year a total of £26,515 was distributed with the following organisations benefiting:
Menlove Allotments Society-chipper machine- £999
St James Pre-School -seating equipment- £518.76
Woolton Youth Centre-computer equipment and art room - £6,374.18
Woolton Village Residents Association- provision of electricity to Christmas tree - £1,000
Woolton in Bloom -Superlambanana- £2,380
Woolton in Bloom - cost of watering plants -£6,000
Woolton Argyle Junior FC-trip to FA tournament - £1,920
Woolton Drama Group - various equipment and training - £3,823.12
Friends of Gateacre - Lambanana and planting - £3,500
This year it is anticipated that between £20,000 and £25.000 will be available from the Charity.
Councillor Malcolm Kelly, Chair of the Charity Trustees, said: "Last year we used funds from the Charity to help Woolton win a Britain in Bloom award and contribute to the Capital of Culture celebrations as well as helping schools, sports and arts groups.
"This year we are appealing again for organisations in the Woolton area who have ideas to improve education and leisure facilities in their community to come forward and apply for funding."
