Cressington Lib Dem Councillor, Richard Oglethorpe, is stepping up his campaign to ensure more ethical investment by the Merseyside Pension Fund. Richard has taken a series of initiatives to try to persuade the Fund to adopt ethical investment policies and to cease any investment in arms. So far, despite the support of Liverpool City Council, this has not been achieved.
Now, in a further attempt to make changes, he has tabled a motion for Liverpool City Council's next full council meeting (Wednesday July 9th). And as the motion has now been accepted by the other political parties, it will become a council decision. The text of the motion is below:
Council believes that a democratic organisation should reflect the ethos of its members.
Council therefore requests the Merseyside Pension Fund Management Committee to ballot its beneficiaries to determine whether or not they would wish to see the Fund's Statement of Investment Principles amended to include an ethical dimension.
Council further requests the Leader of the Council to inform the other 4 Merseyside Council Leaders of this Council's position and request them to write in similar vein to the Merseyside Pension Fund Management Committee.
