The Liberal Democrats have discovered that two thirds of Cabinet members travel in the most polluting types of cars.
The figures, revealed in response to Parliamentary Questions by the Liberal Democrats, show that:
· Of the 85 cars in the ministerial fleet, 30 are in Band F and one is in the most polluting Band G;
· 13 Secretaries of State are chauffeured in VED Band F cars with one further using a Band G car, which produces over 225g CO2 emissions per km.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, Norman Baker said:
"The Chancellor talked about persuading people to buy more environmentally friendly cars in his Budget but now we discover that Cabinet members are being chauffeured around London in some of the most polluting cars on the market.
"This is gross hypocrisy. People all over the country are doing their bit to reduce their carbon footprint but the Government is completely failing to play its part."
