A long time Liberal Democrat member from South Liverpool has been honoured at the national Lib Dem conference in Liverpool today (8 March)
Akbar Ali MBE, a member of the Garston and Halewood Constituency Party, was given a long service award in a cerermony at the Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre.
The award was handed over by party President, Simon Hughes, who talked about Akbar's long service to the party as well as his work for the Abdullah Quilliam Foundation.
Akbar Ali lives in Cressington ward.
Says Lib Dem Spokesperson, Paula Keaveney:
"It's great to see this honour for someone who has done so much."
Lib Dems in Garston and Halewood are hoping this month will be a double honour month as local activist Kenneth McKelvie is also nominated for an award at the regional honours ceremony, taking place on 15 March.
