Liberal Democrats have uncovered figures showing that Liverpool's Primary Care Trust (the bit of the NHS that commissions GPs) is the worst funded in the UK.
The figures show that Merseyside has been underfunded by more than 680 million pounds over the last five years.
Liverpool's PCT has a shortfall of more than 300 million compared to what it should have received under the Government's own guidelines.
Says Liverpool Lib Dem spokesperson Paula Keaveney:
"This is scandalous. This is money the Government has held back from our health services. It should be being spent on health not sitting in coffers down in London"
