A South Liverpool Lib Dem Councillor has slammed a Merseyside wide body for not listening to the pleas of the people he represents.
Belle Vale representative Tom Marshall is currently leading a campaign against plans by the Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority to site a recycling waste station in Netherley.
Tom has collected petition signatures, and spoken up at meetings about the plans. He thought he had been successful when Liverpool's planning committee turned the Holt Lane site down.
The Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA) however decided local people's views were not important and decided to appeal.
As part of the fight against the plans, Tom and a group of Netherley residents went to the Authority's HQ to speak to decision makers at a scheduled meeting.
The protestors however were told they could not speak.
"How can this be fair? " says Tom. " We are a group of people with a genuine point to make. We didn't want to be disruptive, just to give our views to the people who will make the decision. I am outraged about all of this and will carry on fighting this any way I can".
If the waste station scheme goes ahead it will have a huge impact on nearby residents, but also on a food processing factory and educational establishment nearby.
When Tom and the residents were banned from speaking, Lib Dem Councillor Robbie Quinn attempted to speak for them and get the plans changed. But Labour representatives made sure Robbie's attempt failed.
Tom and colleagues are now looking for other ways of opposing the plans. If residents want to contact Tom about his fight, he can be e mailed at thomas.marshall@liverpool.gov.uk. Other contact details are in the contacts section of this website and available from 0151 225 2354.
