Lib Dems on Knowsley Council have added their voice to calls for the Merseyside Pension Fund to stop investing in the arms trade.
Halewood Councillor Dave Smithson, who is also Deputy Leader of the Lib Dems group on Knowsley proposed a motion to the Council, which was then passed by members.
Cllr Smithson said: "I am delighted that Members
have supported this motion and the call to request a review of the
Pension Fund's ethical framework. I think at the very least that all
members of the Fund should have the right to request that their
contributions are not invested in the arms trade. Ideally I would prefer
to see the fund withdraw all investments in this industry which after
all serves only to fund instruments of war "
