Liberal Democrats in Liverpool have pledged to make sure people's bins are collected every week. They have rejected calls to cut back on the service and collect once a fortnight instead.
The pledge comes after a House of Commons committee said that fortnightly bin collections were not right for many urban areas. The committee also said there is no proof yet that cutting back on bin collections encourages more people to recycle - it may instead encourage more people to dump.
Bin collections became a major issue earlier this year when Labour spokespeople on Liverpool City Council argued for the service to become fortnightly. But when it became clear that Liverpool residents hated the idea, Labour performed a U turn.
Lib Dems in Liverpool believe that it's vital to increase the amount of recycling that is collected across the City. The party however does not believe that taking a service away from residents is the right way to go about it.
