The average council tax payer in Liverpool has saved £1,200 since the Lib Dems came to power.
The figure is based on amounts saved by the Lib Dem Council by cutting Labour waste and improving services.
Meanwhile Labour say that they would have taken £126 million by putting up Council Tax year on year.
Lib Dems in Liverpool wrote to more than 100,000 people before setting the budget for the City Council. They asked people to give their priorities for the City. The results showed the priorities were Low Council Tax, Social Care, Street Cleansing and more police.
In this year's budget, the increase has been kept to 2.9 per cent (the rate of inflation) and an extra 7 million pounds is being spend on social care, with more money going into street cleansing too. The campaign for the Home Office to put more into policing continues.
Says Lib Dem Councillor Paula Keaveney::
" This years budget setting process has been very difficult, but we have worked hard to make savings. No frontline services have been affected. No leisure centres, libraries or one stop shops will close - despite what Labour claim"
Decisions on the budget were taken at a City Council meeting on 7th March. The minutes of this meeting, plus other Council meetings, are available at www.liverpool.gov.uk.
