Local recycling groups are being encouraged to bid for cash funding under a scheme launched by the Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority.
The MWDA is the organisation responsible for dealing with the waste collected by the five district councils in Merseyside.
The money has been made available in a bid to encourage recycling and sustainability in local communities.
Grants of up to £500 will be on offer for both new and existing projects.
The funding is part of MWDA's Waste Awareness and Education Programme for Community Groups on Merseyside.
Under the guidelines a project must:
§ benefit your community and Merseyside
§ make a lasting improvement to your community and neighbourhood and have the support of local people in your area
§ be from organisations or groups that reside in Merseyside and operate on a non-for-profit basis
§ be undertaken within the region of Merseyside
Examples for funding receivers could include:
§ Promotion for community groups holding 'Give and Take' days - bring something along that you don't want and swap it for something else
§ Awareness posters - e.g. a school competition
§ Social enterprises - leaflet drops to remind residents what they can recycle
Last year, the Junior Artists Club (in conjunction with Halewood Arts Association) were awarded funding to work with Energywise Recycled Glass to help raise awareness of recycling, environment protection and litter control.
