We need to work together to cut crime - says South Liverpool Lib Dem.

October 15, 2006 12:00 AM

Police and paramedicsSouth Liverpool Lib Dem Councillor Paula Keaveney is calling for a special debate in Liverpool about how to deal with crime and anti social behaviour.

The call comes in a motion to a meeting of Liverpool City Council this Wednesday ( 18th October)

Paula wants the "State of the City Debate" - an event which brings together people and organisations from all over Liverpool, to focus on this issue.

She says: " I want not just councillors but others like the police, the City's housing associations, the NHS, the voluntary and community sector and others to get together so we can look at real practical solutions to anti social behaviour".

" I have in the past organised meetings on the subject in both Speke and Garston. These often brought up ideas and solutions that could be taken forward to benefit the community".

Paula wants the Debate to be governed by some key ideas such as

  • the vital importance of getting more police on the streets
  • the need to protect the victims of crime and give them proper support when they are going through the legal system
  • the need to accept that parents have a responsibility for their children

Information about the Council meeting is available at www.liverpool.gov.uk
