Government meetings about future plans for hospital changes and closures have been joined, in secret, by labour party advisers. According to today's (15th September) Times newspaper, the party representatives have joined ministers to discuss how to avoid NHS plans having an impact on Labour MPs in marginal seats. The news was followed by the announcement that a hospital in the Lib Dem constituency of Rochdale was to be downgraded.
Says Garston Lib Dem spokesperson, Paula Keaveney:
" This is just political jerrymandering of the worst kind. NHS decisions should be taken based on need, not on which political party happens to represent the people in the area. Labour should be ashamed of themselves."
