Liverpool City Council is to spend more on traffic calming in parts of the Speke estate.
The news was reported to a meeting of the Garston neighbourhood committee last week (10th August)
Cash that had been earmarked for spending on road safety is to be used for traffic calming in some of the roads in parts of the estate that have not benefited so far.
The developers of the new Morrisons and Speke district centre had already agreed to fund traffic calming in roads very near the new buildings.
But the decision by the Lib Dem City Council means more parts of Speke can benefit.
Says Councillor Paula Keaveney, who represents Speke says:
"Obviously there'll need to be consultation with emergency services as well as with local people. But this move is really good news for those residents who have become worried about speeding traffic on some of our streets. I have spoken to many people about this, and there is a real need to make sure the streets stay safe for everyone".
