Woolton Village is, next month, to compete for national honours in an environmental awards scheme.
The Village is a North West entry in the national Britain in Bloom competition.
The entry follows several years work by individuals, organisations and councillors in Woolton.
The village has been entering the North West in Bloom contest and did better and better until winning the best large village category. This meant out performing traditional rural villages. Woolton was then chosen to fly the North West flag in the national contest.
Judges from Britain in Bloom will tour the village next month.
Councillors Barbara Mace and Barbara Collinge have been working for years now with a Woolton Steering group. They say working for the common aim has not only improved the village appearance, it has brought people together and improved community spirit.
Other parts of Liverpool have followed Woolton's lead, with more than 30 entries last year in different categories.
