Willie Rennie MP campaigning in Dunfermline
The by election result in Dunfermline, with the Liberal Democrats coming from behind to beat the Labour party, has shown that the Lib Dems are in good shape to take on and beat Labour.
Willie Rennie the Lib Dem took the seat with a swing of more than 16 percent. That's a swing which would see Lib Dem victories against Labour in many parts of the North West including Liverpool Garston, Riverside and Wavertree.
Says Garston Lib Dem spokesperson Paula Keaveney:
"This is more evidence that the Lib Dems can take on and beat Labour at national level. And to do that with a leadership contest going on and after spate of bad publicity, is even more impressive.
The by election was caused by the death of Labour MP Rachel Squire.
