Plans from Peel Holdings, the company owning Liverpool airport, for a development on and around the old Dunlop playing fields site in Speke go to the City Council planning committee next week (Tuesday 7th February).
The plans include a hotel and some other commercial buildings. There is a linked plan to create football pitches on the patch of land that used to be Speke Comprehensive School on Central Avenue.
The Dunlop application has generated objections, including from local people and the Garston neighbourhood committee - which covers Speke, Garston, Cressington and Mossley Hill.
Says Councillor Paula Keaveney:
"I think its important people have their chance to have their say. I am encouraging people to come along to the planning committee - but what I really want is for the committee to put off a decision on this and organise a visit to the site instead. It's only by having a look at the area that you can fully understand the implications and the things that are being said by both supporters and opponents."
The City Council planning committee takes place on Tuesdays at 10 am onwards - usually at the Town Hall on Dale Street. Information about the committee's agenda and background papers can be found on the City Council website at www.liverpool.gov.uk.
