A plan to carry out work on Mains Rough in East Speke is to be discussed by Liverpool City Council's executive board later this week (Friday 6th January).
The plans include removing the mounding on the open space to make it flatter, putting up a fence to provide some protection and stop cars driving onto the grass, some landscaping and planting and adding some litter bins and seats.
The Council is expected to spend around 300 thousand pounds on the project, which will be carried out by a contractor after a competitive tender process.
Local people were consulted some time ago about plans for the Mains Rough, but work had to be postponed because contamination was found on the land. An investigation has now found that it is safe to to go ahead.
Lib Dem Councillors for Speke - Danny Hughes, Frank Roderick and Paula Keaveney have welcomed the plans.
Says Paula:
"I am particularly pleased that this work will help improve community safety as the mounds at the Rough will no longer provide hiding places for people intent on causing annoyance to those living in the bungalows and other properties nearby".
Liverpool City Council's executive board is the decision making body of the Council - similar to a cabinet. It meets every fortnight in public session to discuss key plans and recommendations. Information about this meeting, and others, is available from the City Council's website - www.liverpool.gov.uk.
