People in Speke should, later this month, see the first visible signs of work on the new district centre and supermarket.
Earth moving work will start to make a junction with Speke Boulevard so that people can get into and out of the centre that way.
The work is only expected to take a few weeks initially to get things ready for the next stage of clearance and building.
Says Councillor Frank Roderick, who represents Speke on the Council
" There will obviously be a bit of disturbance for people living nearby - but we'll be working with residents and others to make this as painless as possible. It'll be great to have a clear, visible sign of the progress being made to providing a new district centre, with extra high quality shops, for the people of Speke".
Work on the shops and surrounding area will be monitored by the Garston neighbourhood committee which covers Speke as well as Garston, Cressintgon and Mossley Hill. The next meeting is in early February and is due to take place in Speke.
