Lib Dems in South Liverpool have launched a campaign to stop teenagers from the area being lured to potentially dangerous work on the Welsh Coast.
It's emerged that young people are being recruited to work as cockle pickers - being told they will earn lots of money in a short time.
When they get to Wales they discover they can earn very little, that the work is dangerous, and that their living conditions are unhealthy.
Parliamentary Spokesperson Paula Keaveney has launched a campaign to try to stop this exploitation. She is working with Lib Dem councillors and campaigners to highlight the problem and to elist local support for the campaign.
Says LD campaigner Peter Rainford: "It's outrageos that young people should be tricked into putting their lives at risk like this. We are calling for joint action between Merseyside police and police in Wales as well as proper information for young people to warn them of the dangers."
