Lib Dems in Speke have welcomed the news that Morrison's have taken the crucial first step in the development of the new superstore.
The move, an official "decant notice" for blocks of flats on the site, is a clear sign that things are moving.
It means that tenants in those blocks will now be able to be rehoused and that plans can get underway for demolition, building and creating the new junction onto Speke Boulevard.
Says Paula Keaveney, Lib Dem Councillor for Speke
"The decant notice might sound like an unimportant piece of paper, but its the crucial thing that pushes the button for progress. People in Speke have waited a long time for this development, and the pauses between each stage caused some people to worry. What's important now is to help the tenants in the flats get the best possible deal in their rehousing, and to work with Morrisons and others to make sure that things progress smoothly".
There will be an update on progress, and a chance for local people to ask questions, at the neighbourhood committee on 8th December. Information about the committee is available from any councillor or from 0151 233 3000.
