Tesco's plans to expand its store on Mather Avenue onto the University playing fields next door are to be discussed and voted on by City planners next week (11th October).
Campaigners against the plans are to demonstrate outside the site this Saturday to highlight their argument that expansion would mean loss of open space in the area.
Liverpool University however is keen to sell the site to Tescos.
Local residents recently made their feelings clear at a neighbourhood committee meeting which discussed the plans. But it is the quasi judicial planning committee which decides, and which is obliged to take as open minded a view as possible.
Members of the public are entitled to attend the planning committee, which usually takes place in Liverpool Town Hall. Details should be available in the minutes and agendas section of the City Council website - www.liverpool.gov.uk.
The three Lib Dem councillors for the area have been active in finding out local people's views on the plans. The councillors - Erica Kemp, Richard Kemp and Colin Eldridge - are contactable via 0151 225 2354. Other contact details are in the contacts section of this website.
