The Chair of Garston's Labour party has told the Labour conference in Brighton that there should be more private involvement in the national health service.
Suraj Sharma, who is a delegate to the Labour conference, spoke in a debate on the NHS.
The government is proposing that more activities are contracted out to private operators. This has met with opposition from some labour members and many organisations representing patients and carers.
Says Paula Keaveney, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Garston:
"Surely the point is that we need to sort out the health service and get the investment right. We all own the NHS and it breaks my heart so see Labour messing around with it like this. You only have to look at the crisis in dentistry to see that they are failing. Try finding an NHS dentist these days."
The Labour Conference ran from 26th to 29th September at Brighton. A response statement on the health debate from the Lib Dem national spokesperson is available at www.libdems.org.uk
