South Liverpool neighbourhoods have scooped prizes in this years North West in Bloom Competition.
A few years ago Woolton Village started entering the competition, followed by Gateacre and a host of smaller areas in South Liverpool.
And the work has paid off - as recognised by the awards ceremony which took place in Bolton.
Woolton Village is, for the second year running, the Best Large Village.
Gateacre has improved its position, becoming runner up in the Best Small Village category.
But smaller neighbourhood efforts were recognised too. Judges awarded certificates to mark achievement by residents and others in Catford Green in Speke, the Vineyard Street area of Garston, Hunts Cross, Heydean Walk, Woolton Street, Dale Mews, Grange Mews and York Cottages.
Woolton Village now becomes a North West entrant in the national Britain in Bloom competition, which means it will be judged against other national entrants next year.
Much of the driving force behind the In Bloom work comes from Woolton Councillors Barbara Mace and Barbara Collinge.
They are hoping that Liverpool's bid to host the competition awards in 2008 will be successful.
Information about Britain in Bloom generally is available from the Royal Horticultural Society.
