Cut out environmental crimes - say Garston Lib Dems

September 20, 2005 12:00 AM

Bin bags of rubbish.Liberal Democrats in Garston have launched a "Pride" campaign to encourage people to take more pride in their immediate area.It follows revelations that fly tipping and other dumping in Liverpool is causing real problems for residents.

Says Councillor for Garston, Paula Keaveney,

"Its a minority of people who act selfishly, by littering, or dumping or flytipping, but it can really ruin the appearance of an area. We are looking for people willing to be environmental watchers - to quickly report dumping when it happens so that we can take action as speedily as possible."

More details of the plan will be featuring in local Lib Dem leaflets over the next months, but people wanting to be environmental watchers will receive factsheets about environmental crimes and the measures that can be taken as well as contact details so that reporting can be done quickly.

Anyone interested in being an environmental watcher in any part of Garston should e mail paula@garstonld.org.uk. They will then be sent the factsheets and any other relevant information.
