A meeting for people in the Speke area of Liverpool brought local people together with representatives from the police, one of the local housing associations, the youth service and local councillors last night (12th September). The meeting , organised by Lib Dem Councillor Paula Keaveney, as a way of giving people the chance to voice their views and look at ways of working together towards solutions to crime and the fear of crime.
Says Paula:
"I took the initiative after the success of a similar meeting I organised in Garston village last year. We now have a small group in Garston which co operates on initiatives to improve the area. I know the police in Speke are interested in doing something similar. What's important is that we all take on board the fact that we all have a role in ensuring our communities are safe and secure places to live in"
Paula, or one of the other councillors, will be writing to people who raised specific questions which were not answered during the Question and Answer session at the meeting. Councillors are also keen to find out if there are any other subjects on which people would value public meetings like this being organised.
