Labour Councillors on Liverpool City Council last night (7th September) voted against the Business Plan for a wide range of regeneration projects in Liverpool.
This Business Plan - produced by the Liverpool Land Development Company - included the plans for the new Morrisons Superstore in Speke and for the re modelling of the area around the existing shops.
The City Council, which is dominated by Lib Dems, voted in favour of the Plan, so happily Labour's opposition will have no effect on progress.
Says Paula Keaveney, councillor for Speke:
"I am amazed that they should choose to oppose this plan. The local MP is constantly trying to take the credit for the supermarket development in Speke - yet whenever Labour actually have the chance to do anything - it seems to involve delays (as in the case of the deputy prime ministers department) or opposition (as in the case of Labour controlled Halton Council)."
