The pass rate for pupils at Liverpool schools for GCSE ( Grade A* to C) has improved by nearly 4 per cent compared to last years results.
But some schools in South Liverpool have done even better.
The Liverpool wide increase is about twice the national figure. But there have been even more impressive gains at some schools, including New Heys, St Benedicts, Childwall and St Julies. At these schools the increases in the pass rate were between 8 and 18 percent - a huge difference when compared to the national increases.
In 1998 when the Lib Dems took over Liverpool City Council the pass rate was 31 per cent. It is 49 percent now. That means around 900 to 1000 young people will have chances to go on to further and higher education that they would not have had before 1998.
