Labour Councillors have delayed the introduction of new streetlighting in parts of Speke, querying the City Council's choices and priorities for lighting.
The Councillors delayed the projects by "calling in" the list of proposed lighting projects across the City. That meant that instead of proceeding as agreed, the projects were put on hold.
Streets in Speke earmarked for new lighting include Western Avenue and Central Avenue.
Last nights regeneration select committee, which has a majority of Lib Dem members, agreed to proceed with the streetlighting plans.
Says Councillor Paula Keaveney: "I am glad that the streetlighting schemes for Speke will proceed. Progress has been delayed but we ensured that this delay would be as short as possible"
