The Boundary Commission for England has published its findings after an enquiry last year into the boundaries of the Parliamentary Constituencies in Merseyside.
The review was looking at the size of the constituencies, whether they contained community links and so on. The three main parties all gave evidence to the enquiry, along with a number of interest groups and individuals.
The Commission is now recommending a change to the boundaries of Garston. The recommendation would merge the bulk of the existing Garston constituency with three wards across the border in Knowsley. In Liverpool Church ward would become fully a part of Wavertree constituency as would Childwall.
Says Garston Lib Dem spokesperson, Paula Keaveney:
"This is not what we originally argued for. We believe that crossing a local authority boundary will cause problems and will mean local people getting a less good service from their MP. We also believe that all the Liverpool constituencies should actually be in Liverpool. Having said that, if this recommendation becomes finalised, we will do our level best - along with colleagues in Knowsley - to make this work".
Organisations and individuals have until July 23rd to register objections to the published findings.
Full information about the Boundary Commission and its enquiry is available from the Commission itself.
