The Boundary Commission for England is to report later this week (Wednesday 15th) on proposals to change the Parliamentary Boundaries in Merseyside.
And it looks as if Garston Constituency will expand, with the addition of either the whole of Childwall ward, the whole of Church ward or two wards from across the border in Knowsley.
As part of a review of boundaries, the commission published a draft map of possible changes some time ago. The idea is to make sure that constituencies are roughly the same size and that they don't split communities.
Initial proposals for Liverpool included two constituencies crossing borders - one of these actually crossing the Mersey. The proposals were followed by an enquiry at Liverpool Town Hall at which Lib Dems, Labour and Conservatives gave evidence.
Paula Keaveney, who gave evidence for the Garston Lib Dems says:
"We wanted to make sure that any new boundaries respected community and historical links, and also paid attention to public transport routes."
Once the commission reports, there will be a time when appeals are allowed before any decisions become final. But the next Parliamentary Election will be fought on new boundaries.
This doesn't affect the ward people live in or who their councillors are, but it will affect who their MP and candidates are at the next General Election.
