Make Poverty History say Liverpool Councillors

May 23, 2005 12:00 AM

Make Poverty History wrist bandLiverpool City Council will, later this week, decide to throw its support behind the Make Poverty History Campaign.

A motion to a meeting of the full council (25th May) from Council Leader Mike Storey and Opposition Leader Joe Anderson recognises the work the council has already done on fair trade and calls for support for the Make Poverty History Campaign, which is run by a co alition of aid agencies like Oxfam and Save the Children.

Commenting, Paula Keaveney, who is responsible for the Council's Fair Trade work, says

"We've already made quite a bit of progress on Fair Trade through the Council and working with a wide range of voluntary organisations. This is another step forward. As a political voice for people in Liverpool its great that the Council can make its views clear on the need for fairer trade and better lives for people in developing countries".
