Liberal Democrats in Speke say they are furious at Labour claims over the new district centre and super market for the area.
A planning application for a Morrisons store and other shops for the Speke area was approved by Liverpool City Council a while ago - with Lib Dem Paula Keaveney being the only politician to turn up and speak in favour. The approval followed months of delays - caused first by Labour councillors in nearby Halton and then caused by the Labour government.
Yet now it appears the Labour party is claiming credit for the scheme.
Says Paula Keaveney:
"Throughout the process all I have seen from the Labour party is delay and obstruction. They didn't bother to turn up at the crucial planning meeting - and have been conspicuous by the absence at meetings designed to help the process of getting people from the demolition area rehoused. John Prescots department left the application sitting on a desk unlooked at for months.
I am now working, with other ward councillors, for progress on the development that is as speedy as possible - while also taking into account the needs of people whose homes are going to be demolished to make way for the development".
