the Liberal Democrat candidate for Liverpool Garston, Paula Keaveney, has slammed the Labour government for not halting the tide of post office closures in urban and rural areas.
Speaking in a debate at the national Lib Dem conference in Harrogate (Saturday 5 March) she said it was vital that Labour's role in the closures be exposed.
"The government has the power to stop communities losing these vital resources, but refuses to do so" she told the conference.
Paula also explained how Liverpool's Labour Council group had refused to debate the issue and actually walked out of the council chamber rather than play a constructive role in saving post offices in Liverpool. She also attacked the Labour MP for Garston for attempting to silence councillors raising the role that Labour MPs had played.
Three sub post offices in the Garston constituency were closed in the most recent round - Window Lane, Cressington and Gateacre.
