Liberal Democrats in Garston have welcomed the party's national pledge to raise the threshold for stamp duty.
The Lib Dems alternative budget, due to be published next week (starting 28 Feb) includes a plan to raise the threshold at which house buyers pay stamp duty.
Says Lib Dem spokesperson, Paula Keaveney
"As property prices have risen, more and more first time buyers have found themselves caught paying stamp duty. This has made it harder for people to get a first step on the housing ladder. It is now many years since the threshold was reviewed and it is about time it was raised"
The Stamp Duty pledge is part of the Liberal Democrats alternative budget, which the party publishes in advance of Gordon Brown's Budget. His budget is due in March.
More information about Liberal Democrat policies, on housing, taxation and other issues, is available on the party's website at www.libdems.org.uk. The party is also discussing aspects of its policy at a national conference between 4 and 6 March. Details of the conference are also available at www.libdems.org.uk
