Plans for a Superstore in Speke have been finally given the go ahead after three months of delays by the Government.
The scheme, for a Morrisons store and for other shop units nearby, has been in the pipeline for some time.
The City Council's planning committee gave it the go ahead last year, but because of the size of the development, it had to go to John Prescott for approval too.
When the government missed the earlier 6 week decision deadline, local people worried that the answer would be no. But finally a positive answer has come.
Says Paula Keaveney, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate and Councillor for Speke
"At last we are getting somewhere. For too long the people of Speke have had to put up with a decaying shopping centre while Labour politicians objected to the plans and caused delay after delay. Now at last we can have a nnew distrcit centre and more jobs for local people"
