Opening the Hartlepool HQ
Liberal Democrats from Liverpool are off to Hartlepool to help the Lib Dems win another by election success.
A by election in Hartlepool has beomc necessary because of Peter Mandleson's appointment to the European Commission. That means he will have to resign as MP soon.
Hartlepool is another so called Labour heartland seat, but the Lib Dems performance in Leicester South and Birnimgham Hodge Hill earlier this summer shows the party is picking up support from Labour.
Says Parliamentary Spokesperson Paula Keaveney:
"We are seeing increasing numbers of Labour supporters turning to the Lib Dems as they become disillusioned with Labour's lack of principles"
The Hartlepool by election has not been called yet. It is expected in early Autumn.
